Today wound up being quite excellent. This morning we drove a ways to a spot to see some hellbenders. We lucked out and found two nice, large adults. Here are a few photos for your viewing pleasure.
This was our first spotting of the day. Look towards the center of the photo to see the salamander. It takes some time to spot these guys due to their coloration and distortion from the water.
Here's a close up of that same salamander from the photo above.
This was our other capture of the day. This hellbender was close to 2ft long. Just make a comparison to the hand in the photo.
